Sierra Nevada, Kinghorn

one of those pictures where I had a longing for either a large format lens with movements, or a very wide angle lens. One step back and I would have been in the water.

Lee Angling Club

taken back in early July. Yes, the sky looked like that. I liked the muted sense of the club house against the stormy sky.

Sea Virus

here is a picture that was part of a collaboration with National Poetry Day and Filmwasters. A number of us made an image that was inspired by a poem. I chose Sea Virus by Gwyneth Lewis.
I knew I should never have gone below
but I did, and the fug of bilges and wood
caught me aback. The sheets of my heart
snapped taut to breaking, as a gale
stronger than longing filled the sail
inside me. To be shot of land
and its wood smoke! To feel the keel
cold in a current! To see the mast
inscribing water like a restless pen
writing a fading wake! It’s true,
I’m ruined. Not even peace will do
to keep me ashore now. Not even you.

tv

my current project is developing around the coast, or beaches to be more precise. I'm interested in what gets washed up or left there. My preferred angle of view is really low down at ground level where I mini landscapes like this.
As of today, 23 September, the autumn equinox, I'll be putting images on A Winter Lens too. Please click on the link and keep in touch.

Yawl

Here is an image taken down in Dysart Harbour, just down from where I live. It's a hull of a yawl that's being restored. There are some really beautfully restored ones in the water at the moment. A guy the the sailing club told me it was a yawl and it took a few attempts before I understood him (I'm English, he's a Fifer). Yawl comes from the Dutch 'Jol' which makes sense as Dysart used to be an important trading post with the Netherlands from the 16th to 18th Centuries. There was one for sale a few months ago. One day...one day...

Terns

I love walking along the sea shore with dog, Skipper. Here are some terns (I think). I have to play the percentages with my compositions as Skipper has a habit of ruining them. It will be interesting to see what the winter seaside scenes look like. Although this is very summery, the coast can seem a seasonless place at times.

Gas Tank

I've been developing a few ideas, one of which is photos from moving windows. Here is a gas tank that supplies ships at Burntisland, Fife. I'm trying to get a feel of what I see each day that interests me. Part of the remit of daydreamers. If you want to see some really great images of views from moving trains then check out Walker Evans' series.

Wildflowers

Let's face it, weatherwise it has been a poor summer, although Scotland has escaped the worst of the rain and floods. Indeed, places such as Barra and the islands, seem to have had the best weather of all. One advantage of the wet is that the wildflowers and grasses have really taken over. We've been on a few walks where the paths have been reclaimed, also due to less people going out I guess. Here is one at Cullaloe nature reserve, just north of Aberdour. I love saying the word - Cullaloe - although I am probably mis-pronouncing it.

Seascape 1

Taken from the beach path in Ravenscraig Park, Kirkcaldy. I liked the gentle evening colour and the faint wash that leads into the middle distance.
